The Nigeria international claimed the man of the match award after almost single-handedly crushing Sporting Charleroi on Friday evening
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu hogged the major highlights and headlines following KRC Genk’s 4-1 wallop of Royal Charleroi.
Onuachu scored all of Genk’s four goals in the encounter, netting a brace in each half to power the Limburgers to a record ninth consecutive win in the Belgian Championship.
It is the first time in Onuachu’s career that the FC Ebedei academy product will score four goals in a single game.
Onuachu also becomes the first Genk player to score four goals in one Jupiler Pro League match since Wesley Sonck achieved the same on February 7, 2003, against Excelsior Mouscron.
The haul was also Onuachu’s first ‘perfect hat-trick’ in the Belgian First Division A, with the Nigerian netting a goal with his right foot, another with his left, and two other goals with his head.
Interestingly, since Onuachu made his Jupiler Pro League debut in 2019/20, the striker has scored 24 goals with his head.
That is five times more than anyone in the top 10 European leagues in the same period, including the prolific Robert Lewandowski.
Onuachu has now scored 80 goals for Genk, elevating the forward into the club’s top-3 all-time top scorers.
The Super Eagles star is joint-second with the legendary Wesley Sonck.
Onuachu has some catching up to do with Branko Strupar, Genk’s number-one goal-getter with 106 goals.
With 69 league goals in 97 outings across 7049 minutes, Onuachu has become the second most effective goalscorer in Belgian league history.
The former FC Midtjylland man displaces Croatia’s Robert Spehar, who is at a goal every 106 minutes.
Only former Mouscron and Anderlecht forward Nenad Jestrovic (a goal every 100 minutes) is ahead of Onuachu.
Onuachu signed for Genk from Midtjylland for six million euros.
