The Nigeria international was all-business, no-nonsense on Monday night to power the Neapolitans to an opening day away win
Victor Osimhen has hailed Napoli’s convincing 5-2 league win at Hellas Verona on Monday as the ‘perfect start’ to the new Serie A campaign.
In a performance full of energy, industry, and quality, Osimhen capped his display with a goal and an assist as Napoli hit the usually tough and robust Verona for five.
No team – not Inter Milan, Juventus, or Lazio – scored more than three goals against Verona last season. Even Napoli only managed three goals across two games against Gabriele Cioffi’s well-drilled side.
But Osimhen had other ideas at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi this time around.
The Super Eagles striker made it 2-1 for Napoli just before the halftime break, reacting the quickest to a corner kick and stabbing the ball home with Verona defenders drooling.
Osimhen then celebrated with his teammates before giving the Verona fans, who had been chanting racist slurs at him, a piece of his mind, eye, and tongue.
Overall, the former Lille lad fought hard for Napoli for 83 minutes, won three aerial duels, attempted five shots, and made three key passes – one of which set up Politano for Napoli’s fifth goal of the evening.
A monstrous performance it was from the 23-year-old striker who is now only seven goals away from becoming Nigeria’s greatest goal scorer in Serie A history.
After the encounter, Osimhen admitted the league season is a marathon, but he was pleased to have Napoli start it on a brilliant note.

The Nigerian forward wrote on Twitter: “Perfect Start Into A Long Journey, We Keep Going. Thanks To The Traveling Fans For Their Support. GOD Is The Greatest. We Move.”
Osimhen and Napoli will on Sunday host newly-promoted Monza at the Diego Maradona Stadium on matchday two.
