David Alaba wasn’t the only player with links to Nigeria at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland on Wednesday
Real Madrid defeated Europa League champions, Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup courtesy of goals of Austrian star of Nigerian descent, David Alaba and Karim Benzema.
Alaba gave the European and Spanish champions the lead in the 37th minute before French forward Benzema doubled the advantage in the 65th minute.
More than Alaba, Nigeria had other involvements as Nigerian international sports journalist, Oma Akatugba made a live video of Fireboy’s now global hit single, ‘Party Scatter’ being played at the background.

Party Scatter was a hit single from Fireboy’s second project, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps and has a massive airplay and replay value across Nigerian radio and was globally accepted. It was released more than two years ago and has 4.4million views on YouTube.
Its global acceptance came to the fore again when it was played in Finland to the cheer of fans present at the 36,000-plus seater stadium.
While Real Madrid’s party wasn’t scattered as they tidied Frankfurt, fans could also relish the moment when one of Afrobeats’ finest songs hit the stadium speakers.
It wasn’t the first time Nigerian songs will be played in European games with many others heard in the past.
