The Nigerian striker is in search of more playing time, and he could be on his way to the Championship
English Championship side Birmingham City are interested in signing big Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo from Salernitana this summer.
Simy burst into the limelight two seasons ago when he scored 20 goals for Crotone in Serie A. However, his feat was insufficient for his team as they were relegated to Serie B.
The Nigerian striker joined Salernitana on loan and signed permanently for the club five months into his stay.
Unfortunately, Simy failed to prove his brilliance in the struggling Salernitana side. He had just one goal in 19 Serie A games. His profligacy prompted Salernitana to send him on loan to Parma.
Still, Simy failed to prove his importance, as he recorded just one goal in 12 Serie B games.
The 30-year-old has returned to Salernitana, but he has been starved of game time, with reports stating that the club is willing to let him go.
Last time out against Roma, the former Portimonense man was left out of the matchday squad for Salernitana.
However, it seems Simy may get respite soon, as Blues Focus reports that the Nigerian striker is a transfer target for Birmingham City.
The blues are looking to return to the Premier League, but they are short of options in the striker position. And Simy could be a good fit for them.
The Super Eagles striker is currently valued at €1.5 million which makes him a decent target.
Also, Simy stands tall at 6ft 6″. as such, he could provide a real presence in opponents’ area.
If the deal goes through, it would be the first time that Simy would play in England.
