The Neapolitans need attacking reinforcements after the departure of their talismanic captain
Former Genoa FC Chairman Massimo Mauro has called on Napoli to sign Argentine ace Paulo Dybala as he would be a perfect attacking partner for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
After 16 years on the books of Napoli, team captain and creative engine Lorenzo Insigne has departed the Diego Maradona Stadium for MLS side FC Toronto.
Napoli are reportedly looking to replace the 31-year-old maestro with Udinese talismanic forward Gerard Deulofeu.
But former Napoli winger Massimo Mauro does not want his old employers to ignore the opportunity to sign Paulo Dybala.
Dybala became a free agent this summer, ending his seven-year association with Juventus.
Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli already revealed that the Neapolitans are not interested in acquiring the Argentine.
But Mauro, also a former Juventus star, is refusing to close the door on a potential Napoli move for Dybala.
The 60-year-old insists Osimhen and Dybala would thrive together.
“The second club after Roma in which I would see Paulo is Napoli,” Mauro said, as per Tutto Napoli.
“The role behind Osimhen, free to juggle and invent, would fit him perfectly. And the city would give him the boost he needed to get back on track.”
Osimhen’s future at Napoli is not set in stone as the Super Eagles striker is wanted by half of the biggest European clubs.
Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Bayern Munich are some clubs that can make a move for the 23-year-old before the close of the transfer window.
