The former Atletico Madrid goal king is eyeing a move back to the league where he made his name
USD Almeria has identified Spanish striker Diego Costa as a potential transfer target in the event Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq leaves for another club this summer, reports Elgol Digital.
Sadiq’s goals and assists fired Almeria to La Liga promotion last season, and the Super Eagles striker is expected to lead the line for La Union in the Spanish top flight.
The former AS Roma starlet, however, remains one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, with Villarreal and Sevilla hot on his heels.
Almeria will let Sadiq depart the Mediterranean Games Stadium for €20 million, but no club has put that money on the table just yet.
Villarreal are reportedly waiting to part ways with Lagos-born Arnaut Danjuma before sanctioning a move for Sadiq.
Sevilla could also move for Sadiq when they find another employer for Morocco’s Youssef En Nesyri.
If Sadiq eventually leaves, Almeria will target Diego Costa as his replacement.
The former Chelsea star, 33, has been a free agent since leaving Brazilian side Atlético-MG in January.
A return to Spain would appeal to Costa, and a few clubs would rival Almeria for his signature, including Rayo Vallecano.
