Three-time Swiss Cup champions want Nwakali

The Super Eagles star has been without a club for over two months, but he could soon get on the roster of a Swiss Super League side

Three-time Swiss Cup champions Luzern are weighing up a move for Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali who is currently without a club.

Nwakali rose to the limelight at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup with his brilliant performances in the run-up to Nigeria’s victory. However, the 24-year-old has struggled to get a firm grip on his career since then.

After Nwakali was released from Arsenal in 2019, he joined Huesca. He struggled to secure a shirt at the club until last season when he strung up a good run of games.

Unfortunately, it all came apart for the Nigeria international on his return from the last Africa Cup of Nations, as his deal was terminated after a dispute with the Spanish club.

The midfielder has been without a club since April, but that could change soon as transfermarkt reports that Luzern are looking to sign him this summer.

If the deal materializes it would be Nwakali’s first spell in Switzerland. He would look to help them to a better finish next season as they had to scrape through to avoid relegation last season.
