Osimhen can be a catalyst to help lift Nigeria’s football fortunes – former Super Eagles coach

Distraught as to Nigeria’s elimination from the World Cup, the former Super Eagles coach is seeking solutions to Nigerian football’s current distortion

Following Nigeria’s failure to pick a World Cup ticket to Qatar 2022, former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh is proposing measures to help position Nigerian football to greater standards.

Oliseh, in his column titled, ‘Life is A Sport’ wrote that Nigeria can use Victor Osimhen as a springboard for greatness, as he considers him one of the best players on the continent at the moment.

“Every great food or raw material exporting nation in the world has some basic peculiarities in common; Good and well-maintained farmlands, farmers, seeds, and good climate just to mention a few,” he wrote.

“Similarly, in every football nation, the local league is the equivalent of the farmland above and football players are the seeds of this multi-billion dollars generating sports industry.

“Fortunately, we are blessed with, in my opinion, one of the best African players of the moment in Victor Osimhen.

“If employed correctly, I am totally convinced that this outstanding player is capable of being a catalyst in improving our football fortunes,”

Oliseh wrote further that the current state of the league is dire and needs urgent steps for critical repositioning.

”The state of the Nigerian local league is arguably an extremely dire state, compared to other football leagues in Africa if not the world.

“Sadly, even some internally “civil warring” world nations are even achieved better results than we are e.g., Libya.”

Nigeria failed to pick up the ticket to the World Cup later in the year with critics blaming Osimhen partly for the situation.
