The Toffees won their first game in three, and the former Arsenal man was at the heart of it all
Everton manager Frank Lampard has hailed Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi for his performance in their 1-0 victory against Manchester United on Saturday.
Everton is in a tough fight for their lives in the Premier League. They sit 17th on the log, four points above Burnley, albeit with a game in hand.
The toffees put in a brilliant team effort against a poor United side, and it was a massive boost for their survival hopes.
Iwobi was constantly the subject of fans’ bants because of his poor performances before Lampard arrived at Goodison Park. But since the former Chelsea boss took over, Iwobi has turned a new leaf.
He played an instrumental role in Everton’s victory, and Lampard was pleased with the Super Eagles star.
“Alex [Iwobi] is one who people can see I rely on. We have moved his position, we have changed in, and he has offered so much,” Lampard said as quoted by Liverpool World.
“I think you could feel the crowd’s reaction towards him today with his energy and qualities.
“I don’t know how many kilometers he has run this week, but he’s done it again.
“It is about character, and Premier League players get questioned in difficult moments. A lot of questions asked about [him] and me over the last few days, especially if you make those individual errors.”
Everton continues their survival battle when they welcome Leicester City next week.
