The Turkish giants are already drawing their shopping list for the summer and have included the Nigerian star who contributed to their elimination in Europe
According to a report by Aspor, Super Eagles star Peter Olayinka has emerged as a possible summer transfer target for Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce.
Despite boasting the fine attacking talents of captain Mesut Ozil, Ecuador’s Enner Valencia, and Nigeria-eligible Bright Osayi-Samuel, Fenerbahce have seen their league title hopes wither away in the face of Trabzonspor’s unrelenting march to glory.
The Yellow Canaries are sixth on the Super Lig table with 43 points, a massive 23 points behind the leaders.
Fenerbahce’s season got worse on Thursday when they were eliminated 4-6 on aggregate by Slavia Prague from the Europa Conference League.
Olayinka did not score or assist over the two legs as the Czech Republic champions recorded a similar 3-2 wins home and away over their Turkish opponents.
But the 26-year-old’s all-round play over 180 minutes impressed Fenerbahce manager İsmail Kartal, who reportedly called the Nigerian international ‘a complete team player”.
The Turkish tactician has reportedly urged the club management to add Olayinka to their transfer list and pull all the stops to get him to switch to the Super Lig in the summer. Fenerbahce have been told the Nigerian will cost two million euros.
Olayinka joined Slavia from Belgian side Gent in 2018 for 3.2 million euros. A versatile forward who can play anywhere across the attack, Olayinka has seven goals and three assists in 27 official matches this season.
He was part of the Super Eagles squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where he made two appearances as Nigeria exited the tournament at the Round of 16.
