The one-cap Nigerian international continued his rich vein of form as De club aan de Maas wrapped up up their group stage campaign in the Europa Conference League with a win
Super Eagles star Cyriel Dessers continued his impressive scoring streak in the Europa Conference League to help Feyenoord to a 2-1 win over Maccabi Haifa at De Kuip on Thursday night.
Dessers had scored three goals in his last two games in the competition, and he continued in the same vein on Thursday night as he opened the scoring for Arne Slot’s men in the 38th minute.
The Nigerian international had won Feyenoord’s player and goal of the month for November, and he marked the honours with another strike on Thursday night.
It was Dessers’ eighth goal in all competitions for Feyenoord this season. Reiss Nelson doubled Feyenoord’s advantage in the 65th minute, and it proved to be the winner after Din David pulled one back for Maccabi Haifa in added time.
Meanwhile, in Belgium, Paul Onuachu cut a frustrated figure as Genk’s journey in the Europa League came to an end following a 1-0 loss to Rapid Wien.
Robert Ljubičić’s 27th-minute goal was all Rapid Wien needed to leapfrog their hosts into third place.
Onuachu was introduced for Ike Ugbo at half-time, but his efforts to help Genk secure the three points proved abortive.
The former Midtjylland striker received a yellow card just four minutes after coming on for an argument with the referee.
Nonetheless, he still managed two shots on targets but was denied on both occasions by Rapid Wien goalkeeper.
The result means Genk will have no European football to look forward to when the new year comes.
