The Nigerian striker started his third league game of the season, but he continues to wait for his first goal of the season
Simy Nwankwo’s wait for his first goal of the season continued as Salernitana edged out Genoa to pick up their first win since their return to the Italian Serie A.
Simy was handed his third start of the season by Fabrizio Castori, who, before the game, had backed the Nigerian to come good.
However, the 29-year-old could not impact the game before he was taken off. Simy played 61 minutes of the encounter, but he could only manage one shot on target.
Meanwhile, his international compatriot, Joel Obi, came on at half-time to help the Garnets secure their first victory of the season.
The former Chievo Verona man was busy in the middle of the park, winning all his duels and managing an 81% pass accuracy.
Although Salernitana had 49% ball possession and fewer shots, they still managed to secure the three points courtesy of a 61st-minute strike from Milan Đurić.
