The Smurfs began their Beglain Cup defence with a comprehensive victory at the Sportpark Terschueren, with one of their Nigerian imports playing a key role
Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo scored a brace as Genk thrashed Sint-Eloois-Winkel 6-0 to start the defence of their Belgian Cup with a comprehensive victory.
Ugbo, who joined Genk from Chelsea in the summer, put John van den Brom’s men ahead from the penalty spot in the 34th minute.
A Gerardo Arteaga brace and a striker from John Paintsil then ensured Genk went into the break with a four-goal lead.
Ugbo scored his second and Genk’s fifth of the game in the 82nd minute before Bastien Toma’s added a sixth in the 86th minute.
The brace takes Ugbo’s tally to four in all competitions this season, having already scored twice in eight league games.
His compatriot, Paul Onuachu, was an unused substitute in the game. Next up for Genk is a league clash against Zulte Waregem on Sunday.
