The 22-year-old has put the disappointment of his dismissal on the opening day of Serie A behind him and has found his form
Victor Osimhen continued his brilliant form after he scored twice in Napoli’s 4-0 drubbing of Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
Osimhen started the season with a red card in the opening game against Venezia, but he has put the disappointment behind him.
The Nigerian international’s latest brace takes his tally to five goals in his last three matches. The former Lille man opened his account with a brace, which helped Napoli come back from two goals down against Leicester City last week.
He backed up the performance with another goal in the 4-0 win against Udinese on Monday. The Super Eagles star picked up from where he left with another brace on Thursday night.
Osimhen started well and should have opened the scoring in the opening five minutes as he was through on goal after beating Yoshida with his pace but saw his effort saved by Emil Audero.
However, he atoned for that miss by converting a cross from Lorenzo Insigne in the tenth minute to put Napoli ahead.
Osimhen scored his second of the game in the early stages of the second half, stabbing home from close range following a low cross from Hirving Lozano.
Fabian Ruiz had doubled Napoli’s lead before Osimhen’s goal, while Piotr Zieliński added gloss to the scoreline with a 59th-minute strike.
Nonetheless, the headline was all about Osimhen, who is now in his full element and justifying the club and African record fee of 81.3m euros Napoli paid to sign him from Lille last year.
