The Ivory Coast legend was one of the best strikers in the world during his playing career, and Rohr believes Nigeria’s golden boy has the quality to attain the same heights
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has said that Victor Osimhen has what it takes to become Africa’s new Didier Drogba.
Drogba was one of the finest strikers to come out from Africa. The former Ivory Coast international terrorised Premier League defences with his power, scoring 105 goals in his two spells for Chelsea.
While Drogba is now retired, Rohr believes Osimhen has the quality to follow in the footsteps of the former Olympique Marseille forward.
The Nigerian international is currently with Napoli, whom he joined for a club and an African record fee of 81.3m euros last summer.
Although he has had stop-start progress since his arrival, his quality has never been in doubt. And Rohr believes his star striker could be one of the best ever.
“I think Osimhen has what it takes to become a great striker, one of the best ever,” he told tuttomercatoweb. But he still has to grow.
“He can become the new Drogba. I have no doubts about this. Victor has many qualities that recall those of the Ivorian legend.”
Osimhen showed his quality last Thursday when he scored two brilliant goals to help Napoli come back from two goals down against Leicester City.
The brace took Osimhen’s tally to 50 career goals. He will hope to continue in the same vein when Napoli travel to Udinese for their Serie A clash on Monday night.

Waooo our players are making us proud.
I saw it when he played for the U17 national side. Deft moves, great footwork not to mention aerial prowess, he's Drogba & Yekini all rolled into one. If he keeps his cool & keeps outpacing defenders at every turn, with a telepathic team mate like Iheanacho or Ndidi my! This guy can be lethal, I tell U....
