Meanwhile, a mixed reaction has emerged in the footballing community following Osimhen’s hot chase in the market, with many comparing the two clubs.
To a section of the conversation, Osimhen has achieved more than Isak, and while some believe Osimhen is a natural-born talent.
Since joining Napoli in 2020, the Nigerian striker has consistently proven his worth. In the 2023-24 season, Osimhen bagged 26 goals, which earned him the Serie A Golden Boot.
He has continued his excellent form into the 2024-25 season, moving on loan from Naples to Galatasaray, where he has netted 12 goals in 16 appearances to maintain an impressive average of 0.8 goals per game in Turkey’s Süper Lig.
Not to forget that Osimhen was named African Footballer of the Year for 2023. Not only that, he is the second-leading scorer in the Super Eagles all-time scoring chart.
After his move to Newcastle United in 2022, Isak quickly adapted to Premier League football, scoring 17 goals in the 2024/2025 season.
His goal-scoring form has been integral to Newcastle’s attacking play, which earned him a reputation in England as one of the top strikers to watch.
Isak has won the Swedish Allsvenskan Golden Boot in 2019/2020 and being part of the Borussia Dortmund squad that clinched the German Cup in 2017.
Goalscoring Ability: Osimhen is undeniably the more prolific striker in terms of raw numbers. With 26 goals in Serie A in the 2023/2024 season and a further 12 goals in the current Süper Lig campaign, he has proven himself as a clinical finisher.
On the other hand, Isak has been very effective in the Premier League with 17 goals in the 2024/2025 season, but Osimhen’s goal scoring output is arguably higher and more consistent.
• Playing style: Osimhen is more of a physical presence, with his aerial ability being key components of his game. Isak, while also physically strong, is more of a technical player, with impressive dribbling and playmaking skills. He can operate across the front line, linking up play and creating chances for others, making him more versatile in a tactical system.
• Achievements: Both players have won prestigious individual awards, with Osimhen securing the African Footballer of the Year 2023, listed among the top 10 best players in the 2023 Ballon d’Or and Isak winning the Swedish Allsvenskan Golden Boot in 2020. Osimhen’s 26 goals in Serie A last season and his impact in multiple competitions give him an edge in terms of individual accolades.
Both Osimhen and Isak have qualities that make them exceptional strikers. However, in terms of pure goalscoring ability, consistency, and overall impact, the Super Eagles attacker edges out Isak.
His physical attributes, and aerial ability, combined with his goal-scoring record, make him a more complete striker, particularly in a direct attacking role. While Isak is certainly a talented player with great technical ability, Osimhen’s raw goal-scoring power and success in multiple top European leagues give him the upper hand.
