Dennis joins Blackburn, becomes 4th Super Eagles star after Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Fifth-placed EFL Championship side Blackburn Rovers have secured the signing of Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis on loan from Nottingham Forest, Soccernet.ng reports.

The signing of the Nigerian international makes him the fourth Super Eagles star to don the club’s colours after Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Dickson Etuhu, and Hope Akpan.

Subject to approval from the relevant football authorities, Dennis’ signing by the English second-division side became the third signing of the 2025 January deadline day and the sixth signing of the window, following the arrivals of Yuri Ribeiro from Braga, Cauley Woodrow from Luton Town, and others.

“Rovers have concluded their transfer deadline day business with the loan signing of Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis from Nottingham Forest,” the club announced.

Dennis struggled for game time at the City Ground and will now look to revive his career in the EFL Championship, following in the footsteps of Aiyegbeni, who had a prolific spell with Rovers, scoring 18 goals and providing two assists in 33 appearances.

The 26-year-old forward previously had a brief loan spell at Istanbul Başakşehir but failed to cement a regular starting role upon returning to Forest.

With Blackburn seeking reinforcements in their push for promotion, Dennis is expected to play a key role in their attacking setup.

The former Watford striker joins a club that has previously provided a platform for Nigerian players, with Aiyegbeni, Etuhu, and Akpan all playing key roles at Ewood Park.

Dennis aims to rediscover the form that saw him excel at Club Brugge and Watford as he hopes to revive his career and earn a recall to the Super Eagles setup.
