A disappointing Sunday for Nigerian players in Europe

in News, NewsNow, Nigeria

There was more football action in Europe's domestic leagues on Sunday, and Nigerian players featured for their clubs

This is Soccernet's compilation of some of the Nigerian players that were in action on Sunday.

Moses Simon

The Nigerian forward was in action for Nantes in their Ligue One victory against Angers. Simon ran the show from the wings and supplied two assists to help Nantes end their two-game losing streak and return to winning ways with a 4-1 thrashing of Angers.

Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho

The Nigerian duo were involved in Leicester City's defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex stadium. Ndidi played every minute of the game, while compatriot Iheanacho was introduced in the 75th minute.

Ndidi thought he had clinched an equaliser for Leicester City in the 86th minute, but it was ruled out for offside.

Terem Moffi

The Lorient hitman witnessed 76 minutes of action in Lorient's goalless stalemate at Reims. Fresh off scoring the clincher for Lorient in last week's win again Lille, the 22-year-old was the major outlet for his Lorient side.

However, he was caged and couldn't muster anything upfront against Reims.

Paul Onuachu and Ike Ugbo

The big striker for Genk was phenomenal in midweek, scoring the winner in their Europa League win against Rapid Vienna.

On Sunday, he proved his worth once again, as he came off the bench in the 60th minute, replacing Ugbo, who was largely ineffective.

Onuachu helped Genk secure the vital three points after scoring in the 83rd minute against St. Truiden. The win took Genk to 14 points, three points behind Club Brugge.

Henry Onyekuru

Onyekuru was involved in Olympiacos' 2-1 win over Lamia in the Greek Super League.

However, he failed to register an assist or a goal and was substituted in the 76th minute for Rony Lopes.

Joe Aribo

The Super Eagles midfielder was in the middle of the park for Rangers in the Scottish Premier League game against Motherwell.

Aribo supplied the assist for Fashion Sakala's goal in the 12th minute. However, Rangers had to settle for a draw after Woolery's 66th-minute equaliser.

Compatriot Leon Balogun wasn't in action for the Gers as he watched the game from the bench.

Taiwo Awoniyi

The Union Berlin star was in action against Bundesliga big boys Borrusia Dortmund. However, he struggled to make his presence felt as he fired blanks for the third game in a row.

After 55 minutes of action, Awoniyi was taken off for Kevin Behrens. Despite their efforts, Union Berlin were beaten 4-2.

Chidozie Awaziem

Awaziem played all minutes as he helped Alanyaspor to their second victory in a row in the Turkish Super League, claiming a major scalp off Galatasaray to secure a 1-0 win.

Awaziem kept it tight at the back and made it hard for the Galatasaray attack to penetrate. It is his second clean sheet in a row since he arrived in Turkey.

Jamilu Collins

Collins played all minutes in Paderborn's 4-1 thrashing of Erzgebirge Aue in the second tier of German football. The Nigerian started from his usual wing-back position and put up a good show to help his side secure the win, which took them to the top of the Bundesliga 2.

Stephen Odey

The Nigerian forward was involved in the Danish League cracker between Randers and Nordsjaelland. It was his third match for Randers since joining temporarily from Genk in the summer.

He showed his quality, as he helped his new side with two first-half goals to secure a 3-2 victory against their opponents.

Frank Onyedika

The midfielder played all 90 minutes in Midtjylland's 1-0 loss to rivals FC Copenhagen.

Onyedika couldn't help his side as they fell to their second defeat in the Danish league. However, Midtjylland still sit on top of the log with 21 points.

David Okereke

The Nigerian featured in Venezia's 2-1 loss to Spezia in the Italian Serie A. Okereke played for 62 minutes but failed to impress, and he was replaced with Mattia Aramu.

Tyrone Ebuehi didn't participate in the game as he watched from the bench.

Ibrahim Rabiu, Ezekiel Henty, Uche  Agbo

The trio featured for Slovan Bratislava in the Slovakian league as they welcomed Zilina.

Ibrahim Rabiu supplied the assist for Mraz's second goal, which gave the Slovakian champions a 2-1 lead, but that was all he could muster.

Henty and Agbo were introduced into the game in the 69th minute, but both of them couldn't offer any output, and Slovan Bratislava had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
