The Turkish side has already sealed the capture of Olanrewaju Kayode on loan and Leke James this summer and could add another Nigerian to the squad shortly
Sivasspor are on the verge of completing the signing of Nigerian international midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu from former Turkish Super Lig champions Istanbul Başakşehir, according to a report by Gazaterize.
When the deal is done, it will make Okechukwu the third Nigerian at Sivasspor, after the Turkish side added Super Eagles striker Olanrewaju Kayode and former Molde forward Leke James to their squad earlier this summer.
Okechukwu’s move to Sivasspor will also end his two-year stint with Başakşehir. The 24-year-old joined the Gray Owls in 2019 on loan from Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids FC and featured in 17 league matches to help them win the 2020 Turkish championship.
The champions immediately sealed his signing permanently ahead of the 2020/21 season. It, however, didn’t turn out well as the defensive midfielder played only nine league games as the Gray Owls finished in a disappointing 12th position.
But Sivasspor are keen to hand Katsina-born Okechukwu a fresh start in the country ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
The Braves are currently campaigning in the Europa Conference League after finishing fifth on the Super Lig log last term.
