The Super Eagles will be without the services of their assistant captain for Tuesday’s encounter, but the German tactician has called up a replacement
Ujpest star Vincent Onovo could make his international debut for Nigeria after he was called up to replace the injured William Troost-Ekong for the clash against Cameroon on Tuesday.
Ekong picked up an injury in the 1-0 loss to the same opponents last Friday and has been ruled out of tomorrow’s encounter.
His injury is another blow for Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, who has been forced to deal with players withdrawals for the back-back friendly games.
However, Rohr has invited Onovo to make up for Ekong’s absence. Onovo plays his football in the Hungarian top-flight with Ujpest that finished sixth in the league last season.
He has been at the club since 2018 and made 35 appearances in all competitions for the club last season. The 22-year-old becomes the latest player to be handed a first call-up after Terem Moffi, Valentine Ozornwafor and Abraham Marcus.
Meanwhile, Jamilu Collins is also likely to miss tomorrow’s clash after picking up a knock in Friday night’s encounter.
The second game of the doubleheader against Cameroon takes place at the Wiener Neustadt Stadion in Austria, with Nigeria looking to avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered in the first game.
