No off days: Osimhen trains with local footballers in Lagos

by Joba Ogunwale
June 25, 2021
in News, NewsNow, Nigeria, Serie A

The Super Eagles striker is on his off-season break, but unlike his international teammates, he has been using the time to train back in Lagos

There are no off-days for Victor Osimhen after the Napoli striker was seen training with a group of non-league footballers in Lagos.

With the season over, Osimhen should be on holidays recharging his batteries. However, unlike his Super Eagles teammates, who are currently enjoying their holidays, Osimhen is in Lagos training with some local footballers.

The 22-year-old was seen yesterday playing on a local pitch in Nigeria's commercial capital while also giving out advice to these players.

Osimhen will hope to carry his form in the last few weeks of the just-concluded campaign into the next Serie A season.

The Nigerian international joined Napoli from Lille for a club and African record fee last summer, but he failed to settle in quickly.

Osimhen missed more than three months of action due to a shoulder injury and coronavirus. However, he had a strong finish to the season, scoring seven times in the last 11 league games.

The ex-Lille star scored ten league goals for Napoli last season, although the Neapolitans missed out on Champions League qualification on the last day.

If your team sees this, tbey will not be happy with you. You cant just do things again the way you did them when you were in Nigeria. Now, you arr the property of your club, that is they spent million to buy you. They wxpwct you to make them recup that money and also sale you infuture to make more money for themselves.

You can sustain a season long injury playing on that rough pitch. You know the sort of football we play on the strrets of Nigeria. Just one rough tackle can take you to the surgeon surgery table. And you know how much that will cost your club and you financially.

Pls, just standby and watch them.play. Dont engage in the playing.

    Please, be guide

The Brazilians that go home on holidays to play in worse pitches, does that change anything?

      Besides he is keeping feet.

Go to Senegal to watch Manie or Ivory Coast to watch Amad you will know that what you said do not go far and change or mean anything at all. He’s just catching his fun and getting fit against next season and also encouraging boys like himself. So chill man.

I lived in Abidjan Cote d’ivoire. Drogba, Y Toure, Kolo Toure, S Kalou and Bonaventure Kalu his senior brother during the peak of their career used to join their local old childhood friends to play soccer every day for as long as they were around for holidays. It was nothing to them. And their old guys would talk to them anyhow. They’re humble people. Victor is doing great job to encourage his old guys that nothing has changed and that anyone can get there too. God loves that

Here in Jos, I watched Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa play in a worse pitch than that and none of them got injured cos the local players as they are tagged know their worth so they mark them with ease…

The comment before this is apt. We all know how you love your roots but you can’t do things the way you used to. It’s not a matter of flexing or showing off, it’s what it is:you are a super star now and have a contract to honour. Son ( my daughter is five years older than you) I love you, heed the call of reason.

Saying that your daughter is older is rude and uncalled for, you have no reason to say that, moreover do you know his age?

Playing football at home is not foolish and not any stupidity….. He came back to spend time with his hood so let him do his thing and don’t call that show off cos it’s not your business….. Osihmen enjoy your time in Nigeria as a normal kid cos not everytime you can get it….

Clearly, he needs to stay off injury, even in his own interest. However, a footballer is not a commodity that you buy and lock up after use. He needs to stay fit in the interest of the club and for the love of football. Injuries can happen anywhere, even in training. So, it’s fine to train with whoever, but it’s also important not to overcommit in tackles or attacks. Mendy, Odoi and a host of other players are chilling in the same way. Hope to see d best of you in d coming season. Cheers!

You shouldn’t ignore your roots. It was the same local pitch that made him what he has become and as long as there is no beef, none of the guys playing with him wouldn’t want to injure or hurt him intentionally. Most of the exinternationals did that during their off seasons back then just to stay in shape so it shouldn’t be a problem now.

Please it is not a bad thing for him to train with his local team we all started someone and because he play in a bigger club those not mind he should forget where he start from football is all about love and the love of the game make him to train with up coming players because by training with them it will encourage them more that one day they too will get there even as we his doing that he also have it at his back of his mind that he have to be careful in the filed of playing so please let’s allow him to enjoy his holiday with other local footballer, do u expect him to be clubbing or living a lifestyle that will affect him when the new season start, by brother please enjoy ur train and just be careful don’t put much force just take it easy and enjoy the game that gives u joy I rest my case.

Keep it up, players like Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney and so on go back to their hood or streets to still play, it’s part of improvement. Managers like Sir Alex, Leonardo Jardim encourage so. But be wary of injury cos you be Napoli property.

Good to see him training with the promising talents..Simple caption.”Don’t forget your roots”
There is nothing wrong with that..
It is called ” passion” also.Anywhere you found yourself, what you love during will found you out.
He just needs to be careful considering the state of the pitch;and I am sure the boys will lessen the tackles range..Osimhen;a good example of a soccer ambassador and he reminds me of Late Rashidi Yekini…

Don’t forget it from this muddy pitch he got honor to play football…

By the way if I was him I would have played more on pitch…
Because a legend never forget where he came from..

Injury can occur anywhere infact while running in his house, moreover it an holiday. Holidays are time out of duty to be your real sef. U don’t come out to say things u are property. He needs to enjoy his Holiday. He won’t come to Nigeria if Italy is okay for his Holiday.
