FC Porto took a great step towards qualifying for the knock out stages of the UEFA Champions League following a 2-0 win over Olympique Marseille with Zaidu Sanusi among the scorers.

Sanusi, a summer signing from Santa Clara, opened the scoring for Porto at the Orange Vélodrome six minutes before half-time.

The Nigerian international fired home from close range after the French side’s defence failed to deal with a corner.

It was Sanusi’s first goal for Porto in four Champions League appearances. The 23-year-old is proving to be a shrewd signing for the Portuguese champions following his brilliant start to the season.

In Wednesday’s clash, the 23-year-old was brilliant defensively and going forward. He made seven successful interceptions while he also had an 80% pass accuracy.

It did not only end there as he managed four shots with one on target while he made three successful tackles.

A Sergio Oliveira penalty in the 72nd minute doubled Porto’s advantage and it stayed like that until the rest of the match.

With the victory, Porto remain just three points behind leaders, Manchester City, who have 12 points from four matches.
