The Super Eagles assistant manager was once on the books of the Turkish giants, and they are leveraging on his influence to convince Onyekuru to sign for the club
Fenerbahce have made Henry Onyekuru their number one summer target and will stop at nothing to secure the services of the Super Eagles star.
Onyekuru attained cut hero status at Galatasaray while on loan there in 2019 after inspiring coach Fatih Terim’s men to the Turkish league title and may not be excited to join their bitter foes.
Fener are aware of the young Nigerian’s emotional ties to their eternal city rivals and have contacted Super Eagles legend Joseph Yobo to help persuade the 22-year-old, according to Bulsamiz.
Yobo, Nigeria’s current assistant coach and the country’s joint-most capped international, spent four years with the Yellow-Navy Blues after leaving Everton, initially on loan, in 2010.
Fenerbahce also need to convince Monaco boss Nico Kovac – who is believed to have plans for Onyekuru at the Principality club next term – to part with the goalscoring winger.
But the 19-time Turkish Super League champions are reportedly hoping that a €2 million fee paid each year to take Onyekuru on a two-year loan deal will be too good for Monaco to refuse.
Onyekuru joined Monaco from Everton last summer for €13.5 million and is contracted to the French side until 2024.
