Former Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has revealed Manchester United’s new signing Odion Ighalo is not the right player for the Red Devils.
The former Eagles manager once tried to sign Ighalo for Cardiff City, but the move failed due to the player’s salary demands.
However, the 71-year-old is certain that desperation forced Man United to secure the services of the 30-year-old as he is not right for the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports News via The Mirror, Warnock said: “I tried to sign Ighalo when I was at Cardiff. His salary was over six figures a week, £100,000, something like that. His agent tells you one thing, then the other.
“Manchester United won’t have that problem with the terms. I’m not sure he’s the right player for United. He’s not consistent and isn’t the right type of player.
“They want young players. Why didn’t they go for Danny Ings? He’s someone similar to Marcus Rashford. It’s desperation.”
Nevertheless, the 2019 African Cup of Nations top goalscorer is a proven performer in England having enjoyed a successful first spell at Watford.
The 30-year-old scored 40 goals in 100 appearances for the Hornets in two-and-a-half seasons between 2014 and 2017.
Ighalo may have to wait for the next two weeks before he could make his United debut with Solskjaer’s men set to go on a winter break which was introduced by the Premier League this season.
