Former La Liga Star Praises Ballers Awards Organizers, Urges Super Eagles Stars To Raise Their Level

Ex international, Mutiu Adepoju has urged Super Eagles stars to improve on the level of their game in 2020 if they want to be in contention for the individual awards in 2020.

Adepoju said this at the Ballers Award ceremony held at the Oriental Hotels Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday.  Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi was named best men’s player of the year, while Onome Ebi was named the best player in the Women’s category.

The former Real Sociedad star praised the event organisers, while he urged Super Eagles stars to improve on their games if they want to compete for the major awards this year.

In a chat with Soccernet.ng on Monday, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner urged the pioneers of the event not to relent in their efforts. He also commended the players who went home with the major awards and advised them to raise the standard of their game in 2020 if they are to make CAF final three shortlist.

Asisat Oshoala was the only Nigerian that won at CAF awards last week, but Mutiu Adepoju believes that could change this year.

“I am delighted with the total organization of the event, and I want to give kudos to the organizers of this showpiece,” Adepoju told Soccernet.ng.

“I must admit that the players named for these awards deserve their place even though the best went home with the awards at the end of the day.”

“If going by the list of Super Eagles players that won the awards, I see no reason why we can’t be among the CAF best 11. This is 2020, Nigerian players must raise the standard of their game to be reckoned with in the CAF Awards, he added.
