The champions were humiliated in Jos and that has cost their head coach his job. Ten-man Plateau United thrashed Enyimba FC 4-0 in MatchDay 12 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture at the Jos New Stadium on Sunday, a defeat that has cost coach Usman Abd’allah his job.
The club announced on Monday that Abd’allah’s assistant, Fatai Osho will take charge of the team on an interim basis pending the appointment of a new technical adviser.
On a chilly afternoon in Jos, goals from Uche Onwuasoanya, Ibrahim Mustapha and an Abba Umar brace gave Coach Abdu Maikaba-tutored side the maximum points, which condemned the Peoples Elephant to their third defeat in ten games.
The massive win – despite the sending-off of Plateau United’s captain, Daniel Itodo for a second bookable offence – helped United maintain their top position on the log with 24 points.
Enyimba, with the loss, dropped down to 15th on the NPFL table having won just four games so far.
The struggling giants have, however, decided to part company with their technical adviser.
“Enyimba Football Club can announce today that coach Usman Abd’allah has been relieved of his duties as technical adviser with immediate effect,” reads the statement on the club’s official Twitter handle.
“After a string of disappointing results, the club believes it must set a new course now and regain its competitive edge, domestically and on the continent.
“In the interim, coach Fatai Osho will take over head coach duties. All other announcements on this subject will be made later.
“The club wishes coach Usman Abd’allah the best for the future and thank him for his service.”
