Chelsea club legend Frank Lampard has received massive backing by the Blues former manager as the rookie coach prepares his team ahead of the Super Sunday showdown with league leaders Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho has expressed his beliefs that Lampard would be a success as a manager at the Stamford Bridge as he was as a player.

The current Blues boss took over from Maurizio Sarri after the Italian left his post to become Juventus manager with Frank Lampard overseeing mixed results so far.

Chelsea were spectacular at the weekend when a Tammy Abraham hat trick helped the Blues thrash Wolves 5-2 at the Molineux only for Lampard’s men to succumb to a 1-0 home loss to Valencia in the Champions League in midweek.

Next up for Chelsea is a Liverpool side that have a five-point cushion on the rest of the league. Lampard has already faced Jurgen Klopp’s side once, where Chelsea matched the Reds in the EUFA Super Cup before losing out on penalties.

Liverpool arrive yet again at the Stamford Bridge in Lampard’s biggest game of his short managerial career, a huge challenge that Mourinho insists Lampard has all the attributes needed to succeed.

“One thing is a player, one thing is a manager, and as a player he’s one of the top five most important players in Chelsea’s history,” said Mourinho of Frank Lampard at a LaLiga/LiveScore event monitored by Soccernet.ng in Madrid.

“Frank is one of my best players, for sure, the best professional, one of the most honest guys I have ever managed in my career.

“His managerial career is another thing, he’s had one year of experience in Derby where he showed good qualities. Now he has Chelsea in his hands, he plays for big things, he plays in the Champions League and he’s already played in the Super Cup.

“Now he just has to grow his level of experience which I believe he can because he has huge experience, football has always been in his life, he’s born the son of a player, he’s become a top player and he’s got all the conditions to succeed.”
