Nigeria overcame their biggest challenge in the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Cameroon 3-2 in Saturday’s Round of 16 clash. Soccernet’s Augustine Akhilomen review how the players rated in the match.

Akpeyi: For the few times he was called upon Akpeyi could not but allow the ball stroll into the back of the net twice.  5.5

Omeruo:  At Fault for Cameroon’s two goals as a  lack of concentration on his path allowed Cameroon score twice in the space of five minutes. 5.5

Troost-Ekong: Failed to coordinate his defence properly and was found wanting to track back often times. 5.5

Ola Aina: Was caught on the wrong foot when he allowed Cameroon’s N’jie walk pass him to net the second goal.5.5

ut every foot right and could hardly be caught for any sort of errors. Ola Aina was on hand to keep Bassong quite from making darting runs from the left flank.

Chidozie Awaziem: Had difficulties coping with N’jie and Bassong’s pace and physicality but at some point found his rhythm. 5.5

Alex Iwobi:  One of the few players expected to shine at the Africa Cup of Nations, however, Iwobi is yet to make a mark.  Playing in the heart of the midfield, the Arsenal forward failed to create chances for his teammates and was culpable of some schoolboy errors. However, he redeemed his image by scoring Nigeria’s third goal. 6.5

Oghenekharo Etebo: Sat deep in the midfield and silently discharged his responsibility with ease. His combo with Wilfred Ndidi kept the Cameroonian midfielders from making any serious threat. 6.5

Odion Ighalo: Put up a man of the match performance with two well-taken goals and an assist. 9

Ahmed Musa: Final ball was lacking but set up Ighalo’s second brilliantly.

Moses Simon:  Was a threat down the right but his decision making was poor. 6

Samuel Chukwueze:  His introduction gave Super Eagles attack more life. 7

Leon Balogun: N/A

Paul Onuachu: N/A
