Granit Xhaka and Pierre Aubamenyang shined for the Arsenal as they helped the Gunners to a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirate Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League.
Arsenal scored the opening goal through Granit Xhaka in the 12th after he created space for himself to sloth the goal into the net from a long range.
The game witnessed an equal ball possession as both teams battled for possession, Romelu Lukaku had an opportunity to restore parity but he was unable to find the appropriate angle to beat Arsenal goalkeeper.
Manchester United had nine attempts as well as Arsenal in the first half, Xhaka’s goal was the only major difference in the opening 45 minutes of the clash at the Emirate Stadium.
Manchester United pushed to get the equaliser as Lukaku was connected with a defence-splitting pass but he failed to have good control of the ball to hit the target.
Manchester United and Arsenal slowed the tempo of the game as too many stoppage time was involved in the game. Arsenal had the opportunity to double their lead through a counter in the 62nd minute but the attack was poorly executed by the Gunners.
Arsenal was awarded a penalty in the 68th minute after Fred pushed Alexandre Lacazzette in the box, Pierre Aubamenyang made no mistake to convert the spot kick to double the lead for Arsenal.
Dennis Suarez was introduced as Aubamenyang was substituted in the 79th minute and Greenwood came in place of Nemanja Matic in the 80th minute.
Unai Emery withdrew Lacazette as he introduced Nketiah with four minutes remaining.
The game ended 2-0 in favour of Unai Emery’s men.
