Sergio Busquets extends Barcelona contract |
FC Barcelona have tied defensive midfielder and club icon Sergio Busquets to the club after they announced on their official website that they have reached an agreement with the player to extend his contract until the summer of 2021.
The statement on FC Barcelona’s official website states that the club have reached an agreement with Busquets who will officially sign his contract on Thursday, September 22 at 1:00pm CET at the club offices.
Busquets will extend his contract until the next five seasons, 2020/2021 with an option to add two more extra seasons to it according to the number of games played, hence making it until the 2022/2023 season. Barça slapped a 200 million Euros buyout clause on him which is high enough to ward off any interests from other clubs during the period.
Sergio Busquets joined FC Barcelona club academy as a 17-year old in 2005 and spent 2 years there, he quickly made his breakthrough after playing one season for Barcelona B featuring in 32 league games and he won the heart of new coach Pep Guardiola who promoted him to the first team and handed him his debut in 2008.
Since then, Busquets have been one of Barça’s most important players and has proven to be irreplaceable in the system, making 250 Liga appearances. He also has 90 international caps for Spain and was part of the 2010 world cup winning team.
Busquets has gone on to win 6 La Liga titles, 4 Copa del Reys, 3 UEFA Champions Leagues, 5 Spanish Super Cups, 3 European Super Cups and 3 Club World Cups.
