18 Barça players in Spanish Super Cup squad vs Sevilla |
Luis Enrique has named 18 players in FC Barcelona squad to face Sevilla in the first leg of their Spanish Super Cup tie at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday with Jordi Alba missing out.
The Spanish left back didn’t take part in any of the club’s preseason game and is just recovering from a minor muscle injury and a stomach bug. The player has been left out of the squad for technical reasons and it means new signing Lucas Digne will likely start in that position.
Joining Jordi Alba out of the squad are Douglas Pereira and newly promoted midfielder Sergi Samper. The exclusion of the former is understandable but that of Samper may suggest the player is on his way out of the club. Recent speculations have linked the 21-year old with a loan move away from the Camp Nou to get regular playing time elsewhere with Valencia knocking on the door.
Goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen picked up a knee injury in training and is ruled out for the tie against Sevilla. This means Claudio Bravo will definitely start in goal and the Chilean shot-stopper is joined by third choice goalie Jordi Masip in the Squad list.
In the squad list features no player from FC Barcelona B. All new signings Samuel Umtiti, Denis Suarez, Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes made the squad and are likely to make their official debut.
