Hungarian club Diosgyrio VTK have announced the signing of a Nigerian former U23 defender Godfrey Bitok Stephen, Soccernet.ng reports
Stephen has been at the Russian side Ulyanovsky since February 2023, where he made 7 appearances before signing for DVTK.
During his time in Russia, he displayed impressive defending ability on a few occasions he played and was scouted by different clubs before he went on trial at DVTK.
He began his football journey with Gee-lec Academy in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. He moved to Europe in 2019 with the Belarusian team Isloch Minsk Raion.
Stephen made 57 appearances in Belarus and spent two seasons, before joining Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland in the summer of 2021. He was subsequently sent on Loan to Dinamo Tbilisi in Georgia.
On his arrival back in Poland at the end of his loan spell, he mutually terminated his contract with Jagiellonia on February 1, 2023.
DVTK announced the signing of the Nigerian left-back on their website, stating,
Godfrey Bitok Stephen has passed all usual medication at this time and signed his contract, which will come into full force when all the papers are available. In the meantime, on Friday, he traveled after the team to the DVTK training camp in Austra, where he will start working with his new teammates on Saturday.
Talking about his chance to play for the club, Stephen said, I am happy that during the test match, I managed to convince the professional staff of DVTK to offer me a contract which I gladly accepted.
Stephen’s transfer to Hungary will start another chapter of his career and will hope to make a good impact at the club.
He made all three appearances for the Nigeria U-23 at the 2019 U-23 African Cup of Nations.
