Umar returned to full training during the week, but will not be part of the trip to Camp Nou
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has been omitted from Real Sociedad’s squad for their game against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Umar joined Real Sociedad from Almeria last summer after a thrilling season with Almeria that saw him register 18 goals and nine assists in 38 appearances in the run-up to their promotion to Laliga.
The 26-year-old striker started the season with a bang, scoring the vital equalizer in Real Real Sociedad’s 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid last September.
Unfortunately for him, he sustained a cruciate ligament injury in their 2-1 loss to Getafe last September. The Super Eagles star has missed 43 games since then.
However, Real Sociedad shared pictures of Umar returning to the club’s training center on Thursday. He participated in the full training sessions and looked pretty sharp.
Real Sociedad play Laliga champions Barcelona on Saturday at the Camp Nou. And ahead of the game, the club revealed the traveling squad for the fixture. However, Umar was left out of the squad.
The Txuri-urdin have four games left in Laliga. They currently sit fourth in the league and need to pick nine points from their remaining games to seal the UEFA Champions League spot. Umar could still make his return before the end of the season.
