Bayern Munich managing director Oliver Kahn has shared his reservations regarding the club’s potential acquisition of Nigerian center-forward Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.
Kahn’s remarks came in response to the evaluation by Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, who valued Osimhen at a staggering €150 million.
Even at that value, De Laurentiis insists he has no intention of allowing Osimhen to leave Naples this summer as he aims for more silverware after winning the Italian Serie A title.
While acknowledging Bayern’s need for a striker, Kahn emphasized the outstanding goal-scoring record of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, having netted an impressive 83 goals, more than any other team in the league. This achievement, according to Kahn, reflects the offensive prowess of the current squad.
Regarding the potential €150 million investment in Osimhen, Kahn stressed the need for careful consideration. He urged the club to ponder whether such a substantial amount would guarantee the desired returns.
“We are thinking about the question of a striker,” Kahn told BILD (via Tutto Napoli).
“But we must not forget that we have scored 83 goals in the Bundesliga, more than any other team. It shows that our current team can score a lot of goals.
“150 million for Osimhen? We need to ask ourselves questions. With these sums, FC Bayern has to ask itself: does the player give you guarantees for this money? It would certainly be a big risk.”
While Bayern Munich may represent a fantastic destination for Osimhen, the German champions are not the only team in the race for the Super Eagles striker.
Osimhen, who has 23 Serie A goals this term, is reportedly behind followed by a clutch of wealthy Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.
