Iwobi put up a superb performance in the middle of the park to help Dyche claim his first big three points at Goodison Park
Super Eagles striker Alex Iwobi got his first minutes under new manager Sean Dyche, and he put up a brilliant show to help Everton end their poor run with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal.
Everton were looking to snap a six-goal winless run when they welcomed Arsenal to Goodison Park. And new boss Sean Dyche was looking to begin his reign with a good result.
The English gaffer handed Super Eagles midfielder Iwobi a starting shirt against his former side and he proved his worth.
Arsenal were all over Everton like a rash in the first half, but characteristics of a Dyche’s team, they were solid defensively, limiting the Gunners to just five goal attempts.
The second half started similarly with Arsenal pushing for goals. But Everton held on strong. Iwobi was effective in midfield. He registered 44 touches, 61 percent pass accuracy, three key passes, four long balls, and four crosses.
Everton finally got their reward on the hour mark, as James Tarkowski jumped highest to meet a corner from Dwight McNeil and sent in a bullet header that beat Ramsdale.
Arsenal poured bodies forward in search of an equalizer, but Everton clung to their lead to seal the 1-0 win.
The victory takes Everton to 18th place, and they are only separated by West Ham who sit 17th by goal difference.
