The former Avellino ace has confessed his admiration for Nigeria’s most valuable player in football
Brazil’s Fabio Cesar Montezine has showered praises on Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, pointing at the youngster as Napoli’s best player.
Osimhen has been in the form of his life this season, scoring important goals for Napoli and breaking through new individual heights.
The Super Eagles striker is Napoli and Serie A’s top goalscorer with eight goals, despite missing nearly a month of action due to injury.
The former Lille lad has also become the all-time highest-scoring Nigerian player in the Italian top flight.
Awards have followed Osimhen’s outstanding displays, with the youngster recently named GlobalSoccer’s ‘Emerging Player of the Year’.
But his efforts have not been the only reason Napoli remain unbeaten this season, with many praising the impact of young Georgian playmaker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The 21-year-old, in only his first few months in Italy, has notched six goals and five assists in 12 Serie A appearances to draw praise from far and near.
But for former Napoli star Fabio Cesar Montezine, 43, Osimhen remains the man who makes extraordinary things happen in Naples.
“Hit by Kvaratskhelia? A lot. But the player from this Napoli who impresses me the most is Osimhen,” Fabio Montezine told Il Mattino, as per Tutto Napoli.
“He’s doing extraordinary things; I didn’t think he could play so well and score so often. I later found out that he is a dragger.
“So many years after my games in Naples, it’s extraordinary to see the team up there, in first place, fighting for the Scudetto more than ever.”
Serie A leaders Napoli have been the best team in Italy in the first half of the campaign. Luciano Spalletti’s men hold a healthy eight-point lead at the top of the table, heading into the World Cup break.
