The former Arsenal man has been one of the best players in the Premier League, and the Toffees are looking to tie him down
Everton coach Frank Lampard has confirmed that Everton are currently in talk with Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi concerning the extension of his contract.
Iwobi has been a top performer for Everton since last season. The 26-year-old Nigerian midfielder was important in the Toffees’ Premier League survival last season.
This season, despite playing in a new midfield role, Iwobi has been massive for the Merseysiders, having a hand in four of their eight Premier goals.
His performances have drawn praise from former Nigeria international Jay-Jay Okocha, and even manager Frank Lampard.
Everton recognise the impact of the former Arsenal man, and gaffer Lampard has confirmed that the club wants to extend Iwobi’s contract.
“Yes, I know that Thelwell’s speaking with Alex’s people on that front,” Lampard told Richard Buxton, as per Fabrizio Romano.
“We will see how that one develops.”
Iwobi’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season. But with what the Super Eagles midfielder has shown in recent months, Everton would do everything possible to tie their man down for a few more years.
