The Nigerian striker broke his dock last week in the Smurfs’ win at Oostende, and he has continued to churn out great displays
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored a brace for Genk in their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kortrijk.
Onuachu scored his first goal of the Jupiler League season last week, in Genk’s 2-1 victory over Oostende.
Going into his side’s fixture against Kortrijk at Cegeka arena, the Super Eagles star had the momentum. In fact, Onuachu had scored in Genk’s previous three meetings with Kortrijk.
Kortrijk proved to be a tough nut to crack for the Smurfs. However, they could not keep their strong front for long, as Onuachu gave Genk the lead in the 36th minute with a powerful header that left Kortrijk goalkeeper Marko Ilic in limbo.
Unfortunately for the Smurfs, Selemani drew level for Kortrijk in the 58th minute.
Genk probed their opponents’ backline repeatedly, but they were unable to get a breakthrough. But they were handed a lifeline in the 77th minute after Kortrijk defender D’Haene handled the ball in the box.
Onuachu took no prisoners, as he dispatched the ball into the net calmly to make it 2-1 for Genk.
In the end, it was the Nigerian’s brace that proved to be decisive for the Smurfs, as they claimed their fourth consecutive win. The win ensures that they sit second on the Jupiler League log, two points behind leaders Antwerp.
