The Dutch giants have made it clear they want to strengthen their attack before the transfer window slams shut
Belgian journalist Dennie van Laar has charged Ajax Amsterdam to look in the direction of Paul Onuachu as they continue their search for a centre-forward.
After sanctioning Sebastian Haller’s move to Borussia Dortmund, Ajax have only one out-and-out striker Brian Brobbey in the first team.
Ajax boast several attacking options, with Dusan Tadic, Steven Bergwijn, and Mohammed Kudus able to play in the false nine role.
But with UEFA Champions League football available next season, Ajax are eyeing a plan B for Brian Brobbey.
The Eredivisie champions are on the lookout for a tall, established striker.
In the latest edition of their Done Deal podcast, football analysts Dennie van Laar and Ruben Winkels profiled a few quality strikers – including Paul Onuachu, Andrea Belotti, Christian Benteke, Edinson Cavani, and Diego Costa – who can come good for the Dutch side.
And regarding the Super Eagles forward at Racing Genk, Dennie van Laar said: “In Belgium, they have Paul Onuachu, last year’s top scorer at Genk.
“He’s a class act, which puts him there (on Ajax shortlist) every single time. He’s also tall. But he wouldn’t be cheap.”
Onuachu is currently recovering from an injury that has kept him out of preseason and Genk’s first match of the 2022-2023 league campaign.
The Nigeria international received the Belgian Ebony Shoe this year after finishing as the Pro League’s top goalscorer last year.
At the end of last season, the 27-year-old also finished as Genk’s top scorer.
Compatriot Calvin Bassey has already completed a multi-million euro move to Ajax this summer.
