Lokomotiv Plovdiv of Bulgaria defender Stephen Eze hopes he can force his into Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after he was named in the list of players for this month’s friendly fixtures Poland and Serbia.
Eze impressed for Nigeria’s home-based team at the African Nations Championship in Morocco early this year where the team finished second and was named in the team of the tournament.
He has also been in fine form for his new club and was included in the Bulgaria Premier League team of the week last week.
With the likes of Leon Balogun, William-Troost Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem all ahead of him in the pecking order, the former FC Ifeanyiubah centre-back will have to fight hard to make the final cut for the World Cup.
But he is unperturbed by the challenge and is ready to give is all in the fight to play at the Mundial.
“I’m happy with my invitation to the games against Poland and Serbia. It’s a testament to my impressive performance at the CHAN and for my club,” he stated.
“My main target is to make the squad to the World Cup and I will work hard to achieve that objective.
“There are guys who are ahead of me in the team and I hope to learn from them to too.”
Gernot Rohr’s men will face Poland in Warsaw on March 23rd and they take on Serbia four days later in London.
