The 28-year-old is already attracting interest from Genoa, but Il Grifone could face a battle for his signature from another rival
Sampdoria have joined Genoa in the race to sign Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo this summer. Simy has had a record-breaking season in the Italian top-flight, and he’s expected to leave Crotone when the season concludes.
Simy is currently the third-highest goalscorer in the Serie A this season, but Crotone are doomed for relegation with just five wins all season.
The Super Eagles star has 19 goals this season- the most a Nigerian has scored in any of Europe’s top five leagues in a single season.
Simy also moved past Obafemi Martins as the highest scoring Nigerian in the Serie A, while he also became Crotone’s all-time top scorer this season.
His exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Genoa and Sampdoria expected to make a move for him in the summer.
Il Grifone were the first club linked with a move for Simy, but they are now set to battle it out with their local rivals, according to LaGazettaDelloSport.

Although Simy has stated that he’s not thinking of leaving the Stadio Ezio Scida, Crotone manager Serse Cosmi has admitted the club are likely to lose their top man this summer.
