Samuel Chukwueze was impressive as Villarreal had to come from behind to defeat Eibar for their first win of the new La Liga season.
The Nigerian was handed his second consecutive start by Unai Emery, and he did not disappoint as he was a threat down the right flank.
Villarreal dominated possession right from the start, but they struggled to create real chances as the first half ended goalless.
The second half kicked off with Eibar taking the lead courtesy of a Kike Garcia strike. The Spanish striker latched on to a through ball and rounded off Sergio Asenjo in Villarreal’s goal to slot into an open net.
However, Unai Emery’s men drew level in the 63rd minute through Gerard Moreno with Chukwueze playing a role in it.
The former Golden Eaglets star picked out Moreno in the box, who then beat his marker brilliantly before slotting into the bottom corner.
Villarreal took the lead eight minutes later through former Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer. In what was a similar striker to Kike’s opener, the Spain international finished past Marko Dmitrovic following a brilliant ball through the middle.
Alcacer’s goal proved to be the winner as Unai Emery finally got his first win as Villarreal’s manager.
