Enyimba FC’s captain Chinedu Udoji has made a new mark in the Glo Nigeria Premier Football League this season as the defender continues to power the former champions towards wrestling the title back from Kano Pillars.
The defender has been one of the shining lights this season for the Aba Elephants and it continues to beat logic why the national team handlers have not yet invited him for national duties.
The 25 year-old centreback’s strike at the weekend was the 700th goal scored so far in the Glo NPFL. His goal helped Enyimba down Shooting Stars and cling on to top spot on the league table. In total, 701 goals have been scored in the league with an average of 2 goals per game.
Captain, Chinedu Udoji’s header, fifteen minutes to time, was the difference between the sides, after Ajani Ibrahim had stunned the home fans in the 56th minute. The six time champions had taken the lead earlier through Musa Najare in the 14th minute.
The slim victory ensured that the former African kings stayed ahead of the chasing pack of Warri Wolves, Wikki Tourists and Giwa FC.
Sunshine Stars are a further place back in 5th and at the risk of missing out on securing a continental ticket. It is the first time since Match Day 6 that Sunshine Stars are not among the top-4 teams of the Glo NPFL ranking.
