The Super Eagles player Alex Iwobi may have been likened to his uncle Austin Okocha as they share the same root and heritage.
But on the pitch, things may look different as the 23 years old former Arsenal man is yet to emulate his uncle on every ground.
Frankly speaking, Alex Iwobi has had a better opportunity than his uncle Okocha and most Nigerian players.
This is very true as his uncle has to play his way from Nigeria to a European club, while Alex was brought up in London, joining Arsenal at the tender age of 9 years.
This meant a shortcut to his blossoming career.
As we draw the comparison between Alex Iwobi and Austin Okocha, we acknowledge that the former is not at the level the latter operated during his playing days.
On this note, we take into consideration some of the key things the former Arsenal man Alex Iwobi must do to be like or match his exceptional uncle, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.
Take More Responsibility
Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi needs to improve rapidly in this area if he wants to reach the legendary status of his Uncle.
He should be the player making the difference for the Super Eagles. Players like Ahmed Musa and Samuel Kalu and even Samuel Chukwueze seems to take more responsibility than the former Arsenal man.
Alex must be brave enough to call for balls from his teammate. He should be more convincing and tidy even in tight situations as he’s got the ability to do so.
Show Improved Character
Nigeria has been a team that has thrived on many qualities on and off the pitch as they’ve got an excellent reputation in African football.
One of these attributes is the team’s character and positive outlook in the faces of some Nigerian players as seen against Brazil in the Atlanta 96 Olympic games.
Nigeria went on to win the game as the trio of Daniel Amokachi the Bull, Victor Ikpeba; the Prince of Monaco, and Nwankwo Kanu, Papillo galvanized a massive turn around in the match.
This is one area Iwobi must work on as he seems to be lacking the required confidence and character to thrive in the Nigerian jersey and the attacking midfield role like his uncle.
He must be encouraged to showcase his talent on the pitch despite the odds.
