The Nigerian international is one of the standout performers in the German top flight this term
Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu has called on Arsenal to make Victor Boniface their priority signing in the coming transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.
Arsenal are expected to be active in the winter transfer market, with concerns mounting over the fitness of Brazilian star Gabriel Jesus.
The former Manchester City striker has struggled with injuries and has only started four Premier League games, scoring once.
With Jesus in and out, Eddie Nketiah has stepped up to the plate, finding the net five times in 11 league appearances.
However, five teams have scored more goals than Arsenal in the EPL, and the Gunners need to get more if they are to challenge Manchester City for their crown.
Arsenal are already heavily linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, but Ogu is convinced Boniface is the perfect player for the Londoners.
Boniface has lightened up the German top flight this season, having only arrived from Belgium’s Union Saint Gilloise in the summer.
The Super Eagles forward won the Bundesliga Player of the Month in August and has claimed the first three Rookie Player of the Month awards of the campaign.
The 22-year-old’s goals, assists, and eye-catching dribbles have been crucial to powering Bayer Leverkusen to the top of the league table, positioning Die Werkself as Bayern Munich’s biggest challenger for the title.
Ogu believes Boniface could replicate his excellent performances in the Premier League, and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze-winning midfielder has urged the Gunners to go all in for his compatriot.
Ogu, a confessed Gunners fan, wrote on his Twitter account: “Dear Arsenal, don’t sleep on Boniface. Our solution.”
Boniface has seven goals and six assists in all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen, and he has the most attempts on goal in the Bundesliga so far.
