Sanusi sustained an injury in September, and he has been sidelined since
Porto coach Sergio Conceicao has confirmed that Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi is on the squad for their UEFA Champions League fixture against Belgian side Antwerp on Tuesday, Soccernet reports.
Sanusi has been out of action for almost two months since he sustained a muscle injury in Porto’s 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions on September 19.
The injury ruled the 26-year-old out of the last international break for Nigeria’s friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
Sanusi has also missed Porto’s last eight games across all competitions. However, he looks set to make his return on Tuesday.
In the pre-match presser for Porto’s game against Antwerp, Conceicao revealed that Sanusi is back to full fitness and would be available for selection.
“Zaidu will be in the squad[against Antwerp]. No other players have recovered for the game, only after the Vitoria game, during the selection break,” Conceicao said.
Despite recovering fully, it is unlikely that Sanusi will start for Porto. Wendell has done well at left-back since he was sidelined, and Conceicao would not be pressured to play him.
It is set to be a clash of Nigerian players, as Antwerp have Chidera Ejuke and Alhassan Yusuf on their roster.
