A series of earthquakes struck Naples on Tuesday night, causing widespread fear and commotion, particularly among residents, one of which is Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.
This seismic event, the strongest in recent weeks, occurred at 3:35 a.m. today (Wednesday), jolting the entire Neapolitan area from its slumber.
The quake’s epicenter was about 3 kilometers deep, leading to a brief yet intense shaking that left Neapolitans in panic.
According to Tutto Napoli, this is the most powerful earthquake to hit the region in nearly four decades. Thankfully, there are no immediate reports of casualties or significant property damage.
Both firefighting and civil protection teams are currently assessing structures for safety.
Meanwhile, concerns will likely grow for Nigerian striker Osimhen, who is currently in Naples.
While Osimhen’s life is not in immediate danger due to the earthquake, he is facing criticism from his own club for missing a penalty against Bologna.
Osimhen is embroiled in a dispute with Napoli after a controversial TikTok video, initially posted by the club, caused a rift.
The video has since been removed, but only after Osimhen demanded its removal during a Napoli team dinner on Tuesday night, expressing his displeasure, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, expressed his discontent on social media and threatened legal action to defend the player.
Sky Sports reports that Napoli now faces mounting pressure to address the issue. Osimhen expects both distance from the controversial video and an apology from the club’s management, especially owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Napoli will host Udinese on Wednesday night, seeking their first league win in September.
