Awoniyi has been in great form since the start of the season, but he would be facing the toughest test yet
Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed that he is relishing the potential match against Manuel Akanji when Nottingham Forest take on Manchester City on Saturday, Soccernet reports.
Nottingham Forest will be looking to upset champions Manchester City when both clubs clash at the Etihad on Saturday.
The Cityzens have beaten all comers this season, conceding three goals in five games. Forest, on the other hand, have scored in all five of their Premier League games this season.
Nigeria striker Awoniyi would likely lead Nottingham Forest’s attack on Saturday, and he would be looking to rattle the net. However, he would have to find a way to get past City’s solid centre-back partnership of Akanji and Ruben Dias. However, Awoniyi has revealed his enthusiasm to take on the champions.
“I played against him[Akanji] in the Bundesliga, and I know how tough he is,” Awoniyi told the Guardian.
“I’ve always believed [success in football] will happen. I’ve always worked hard, I’ve always hoped for it, prayed for it, and I’ve always done everything that will make me achieve what I want.”
Awoniyi already has three goals to his tally, and he would be looking to add to that number and spur Nottingham Forest to victory.
