Nigeria are overwhelming favourites going into the game, but they are approaching the fixture with a high level of seriousness
Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has stated that the level of competition in camp is high ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe on the 10th of September, Soccernet reports.
Nigeria would be looking to end the AFCON qualifiers on a high when they welcome Sao Tome and Principe to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
When both teams met in the first leg last year at the Stade Adrar in Morocco, Nigeria were victorious, claiming an emphatic 10-0 victory.
With the quality of the Super Eagles squad and the result they churned out in the first leg, they are expected to thrash the Falcons and True Parrots.
AC Milan star Chukwueze will be expected to play a big role in the game, and he says the Super Eagles are working hard in training to emerge on top.
“The atmosphere in the Super Eagles camp is positive, everyone is ready to play,” Chukwueze told Tobi Adepoju.
“For the first time, everyone was fighting in training. It’s a great feeling, and everyone is ready.
“The plan is to beat Sao Tome and Principe. It’s very important because I can’t remember the last time we won in Nigeria. We have to win to draw the fans closer to us.”
A victory for Nigeria would guarantee their spot at the summit of Group B, irrespective of the result of the game between Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone.
