Chukwueze had many options, but he eventually decided to move to the Serie A giants
Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has revealed that Nigeria teammate Victor Osimhen convinced him to join AC Milan after telling him about the city and the fans, Soccernet reports.
After spending six years with the Yellow Submarine, Chukwueze decided to leave the club. His deal was supposed to expire at the end of next season, but he refused to sign an extension.
There were talks of interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and English Premier League sides Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Everton. However, Italian giants AC Milan emerged as frontrunners for his signature.
They eventually completed the transfer on Thursday. Chukwueze joined the Rossoneri for €20million plus €8million add-ons on a five-year deal.
The 24-year-old winger has a very close relationship with Napoli superstar Osimhen, and he has revealed that he played a role in his decision to join AC Milan.
“I’m here thanks to the affection of the fans and thanks to Osimhen,” Chukwueze told Milan TV.
“He told me that Milan is a beautiful club, one of the best clubs, and I should not hesitate to sign with them. He also said that they are fantastic and they have wonderful fans.”
Chukwueze is the ninth Nigerian to sign for AC Milan. No Nigerian player has left a big mark at the club, but the Super Eagles star would be looking to change that this time.
